Travelling with CPAP: A Practical Checklist

Travel does not have to interrupt your routine. With a little planning, taking your CPAP equipment away is straightforward. This is general information, not medical advice.

Before you go

  • Power. Check the voltage at your destination and whether you need a travel adaptor. Some people use a dedicated battery for trips off the grid. See power options.
  • Carry it on. CPAP machines are widely recognised as medical devices and are generally allowed as cabin baggage. Check with your airline before you fly.
  • Documentation. Some travellers carry a copy of their prescription or a letter from their clinician, especially for international trips.

Consider a travel machine

If you travel often, a compact travel machine can be easier to pack than a full-size unit. Browse the options in CPAP machines.

Keep it clean on the road

Pack a few spare consumables and a plan for keeping your mask and tubing clean while you are away. A spare cushion and filter take up little space and save a lot of hassle.
