How Often to Replace Your CPAP Supplies

CPAP equipment works best when its consumable parts are fresh. Cushions soften, filters load up with dust, and tubing and chambers wear over time. This is a general guide to replacement, not medical advice. Always follow the instructions supplied with your specific product, and speak with your clinician about anything related to your therapy.

Why replacement matters

Worn parts are the most common reason a setup starts to leak, feel less comfortable, or become harder to keep clean. Replacing consumables on a regular schedule helps keep the equipment hygienic and performing as the manufacturer intended.

Parts that are replaced over time

  • Mask cushions and pillows. These sit against your skin and soften with use, which can lead to leaks. See mask parts.
  • Filters. Disposable filters trap dust and are replaced regularly; some machines also have washable filters. See filters.
  • Tubing. Tubes can develop wear or small tears over time. See machine parts.
  • Humidifier chamber. Water chambers build up mineral deposits and are replaced periodically.
  • Headgear. Straps stretch with washing and wear, which affects the seal.

How to know it is time

Manufacturer guidance gives suggested timeframes, and your own experience is a good signal too. Increased leaks, a cushion that no longer seals, visible wear, or harder cleaning are all common prompts to replace a part. Check the guidance that came with your equipment for the specific intervals.

Keeping it simple

Many people keep spare cushions and filters on hand so a replacement is never far away. If you are not sure what your machine or mask takes, our team can help. Call 1300 27 27 66 or browse masks and parts.
